At some points of our hike the rain was coming down in sheets, other times the cloud ceiling would lift and we would get great views. The fire made for much easier access to both it and Giant, so much so that until only a few dozen years ago there were regular horse rides going to the summit of Rocky Peak Ridge and near to the summit of Giant. Bring plenty of water in hot temperatures; there are practically no water sources along the way. Most people just hike to Bald Peak, a shorter 3.9 mile (one way) hike with a view of Rocky Peak Ridge and Giant Mountain.
